Changing the way you put your baby to bed can save their life
A new report from the CDC highlights a critical message for parents: nearly three-quarters of sudden unexpected infant deaths between 2020 and 2024 involved unsafe sleep environments.
The data showed that 78% of these cases involved soft bedding, 75% occurred outside a crib or bassinet, and 59% involved sharing a sleep surface.
Wellness expert Dr. Leana Wen emphasizes that following basic guidelines can save lives.
Babies should always sleep flat on their backs on a firm, separate surface with only a fitted sheet. If you're worried about temperature, swap loose blankets for a wearable sleep sack.
And remember, while room-sharing is encouraged during the first six months, bed-sharing is not. Place your baby's crib or bassinet next to your bed so you can still feed/comfort as needed, but never share the same sleeping surface. Read all the life-saving tips here.
