The city that never (always?) sleeps!
Check a new parent's Google history, and you'll likely find at least one search for, "when do babies sleep through the night?” and at least one for "will my life ever be the same?"

While we can't answer the second question, we can provide more insight into the first, thanks to Dr. Natalie Barnett (VP of Clinical Research at Nanit) who recently led a study of 100,000 users to analyze how well babies aged 0 to 8 months slept across the United States.

The study uncovered some truly surprising trends:

  • Location Matters: Babies in the Northeast (shoutout to Maine!) had the highest sleep scores.

  • City Life: Urban babies, such as those living in NYC, actually slept better than those in rural areas. Dr. Barnett suspects that better parental leave policies, childcare access, and the "constant hum" of city white noise play a huge role.

  • The Stress Loop: Babies sense our anxiety. If you’re obsessing over the data, they might feel that tension.

That last point is actually very important. Experts warn against falling into Orthosomnia. Orthosomnia is the obsessive pursuit of perfect sleep, and Barnett told Newsweek it’s not helpful for parents to become obsessed with their baby sleeping all the time perfectly. Here's why.

🎉 How elaborate are your kids' b-day parties?
Are you a minimalist or a party pro? A study of 5,000 parents shows a near-even split between simple and elaborate birthdays. It turns out your location and your child’s social circle are the biggest predictors of how you celebrate. From high-energy parties in Latin America to quiet traditions in Southeast Asia, there is a fascinating science behind every guest list. What's interesting is that the 6-9 age range appears to have the most elaborate birthdays. Get all the deets.

🧸 Don't build this bear!
Build-A-Bear has issued a safety recall for 36,000 Heartwarming Hugs Bears sold earlier this year. A zipper on the bear’s pouch can detach and pose a choking hazard, so parents are urged to stop using them immediately. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported yet. Check your bear's leg for recall number 034464 and learn how to get your refund.

🤷‍♀️ Apparently, sharing is NOT caring?
An Arizona mom’s viral video is sparking a massive debate after she declared that her kids never have to share their toys or snacks. In the video, she states, "If we are out and about at the park… some communal play place, if my kids have a scooter, toys… they’re not sharing with your kids." See the internet's totally chill reactions here.

💪 What in the heck is "looksmaxxing"?
A dangerous viral movement called "looksmaxxing" is taking over teen boys' social media feeds, and experts are sounding the alarm. While it starts with basic skincare or fitness, it often spirals into "bonesmashing" or using steroids to achieve a "perfect" physical peak. Rooted in extreme online subcultures, this trend can lead to severe body dysmorphia and eating disorders. See the red flags you should be watching out for. Oh, and if you're wondering, this is what bonesmashing is.

👀 Are you the napkin mom?
It's okay if you are.

Last week, we asked you how many nights in a row do you actually wear your pajamas before they hit the wash, and the majority of you said "one night," which is very surprising. Lots of super clean subscribers! 4-6 nights was in second place, followed by 2-3 nights.
